For the final weeks of the trimester, we were divided into groups consisting of first, second, and third year students - I was a part of group one. The goal was for us to collaborate as a team and produce creative work that addressed the brief.

The Brief

To increase attendance and applications, create engaging TikTok videos promoting ARU's open days, and the university as a whole.

Planning

Initially, we sat down as a group and listed all sorts of ideas we could think of. We wanted our content to be up with the current trends, we didn't want our audience to assume this is just another corporal video - we wanted our TikToks to be funny, real, as well as informative. The mode of address was going to be informal and direct. Most of our inspiration came from our home page on TikTok.

We have decided to create a google doc that we could later reference and all add to as we went along. We have included captions, hashtags as well as post times.

Week One

For our first TikTok, I suggested creating something simple since we had limited time to finish it that day. The Ruskin Gallery seemed a great starting point; the current exhibition offered much to explore and it would be a great way to showcase it. Conan proposed recreating the "made in cinematic" trend, which follows a straightforward pattern. These videos aim for visual appeal, so given our art school setting, it was another opportunity to demonstrate our skills. At the gallery, we asked Sade and Will to act while Conan and I handled the camerawork.

Filming Night

To showcase the university experience, we have decided to film more TikToks during our free time, exploring student life and relationships. With this TikTok, I aimed to highlight the joy students find in building meaningful connections – studying at ARU is not just an individual pursuit, but also an opportunity to bond with peers over combining work and fun. For this TikTok we have used the VHS trend.

Week Two

We started week two with a induction to the photography studio. We didn't end up using it in the end, but regardless I found this experience extremely useful and informative. Typically, shooting in this manner primarily allows for control over external factors that could otherwise diminish photo and film quality, such as weather, inadequate lighting, or disruptive interruptions. In the future, I find myself using this studio for taking high quality photographs that I can later use in my projects.

TikTok Filter

During week two, Ewan took on the task of creating our TikTok filter. The filter is quite simple, it generates one of many activities and reasons why to choose ARU as well as a small description of each. Ewan did a great job at creating the filter and we were all really happy with how it turned out.

While Ewan was perfecting the filter, the rest of our group had their own tasks to complete by the end of the day.

Open Day TikToks

Both Sade and Will created TikToks promoting the open day, whilst Sade took a simple visual approach, Will decided to create a entertaining version which he edited in Premiere Pro. Personally, I really enjoy both of them and it's hard to choose between them.

One Pound Lunch

Whilst that was going on, I have suggested making a quick one pound lunch TikTok video that would advertise, in my opinion, one of the greatest things uni has to offer. One pound lunches are great and affordable for anyone so why not let more people know about it! Conan took care of filming this time as he reviewed both me and Sade.

Taekwondo

Whilst being present during one of Taekwondo championships, Conan decided to make some short TikToks showcasing the event.

Week Three

During this week we were asked to present our work to everyone. Because we were done with our work early, we have decided to film a short presentation video as a fun mini project. Overall, I am highly satisfied with how this project turned out, it was an amazing experience to be a part of such a active and talented group.
