Today we got introduced to the Ai module, taught by Matt Gwyther, a neuroscience researcher: dreams and altered of consciousness.
Introduction to miro
Miro is a digital collaboration platform designed for team communication and project management. I found Miro to be a fun platform! It is highly accessible and fun to collaborate on.
Project Assignment: Bringing Dreams to Life with AI
"This project is an open invitation to interpret your dreams creatively and critically using AI tools. Your engagement with research, documentation, and reflection will be key to realizing a compelling and imaginative final piece. Efforts in these sessions will contribute to around 50% of your final mark"
Elements of submission:
Presentation from week 12 (20%)
Creative process documentation (40%): experiment documentation / research / critical reflection, including how you responded to / incoporated feedback from presentations
Final creative piece (40%)
What is AI? What is generative art/media?
"Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems"
"Generative art (or media) refers to media that in whole or in part has been created using autonomous systems, such as a computer algorithm"
Why is AI important?
New job opportunities (at the expense of old jobs becoming irrelevant...)
Decrease in freelance work opportunities as people are getting replaced with tools such as ChatGTP.
HOWEVER, AI does increase productivity. According to the Harvard Business schools study - Consultants using AI tools showed a 25% increase in productivity and their work quality was rated 40% higher compared to colleagues not using AI.
The ethical implications of AI
Bias and fairness
Autonomy and human agency
AI and employment
Group discussion
I was in a group with Betty, and we spoke about the issues with Ai and Employment - the consequences and potential solutions, although realistically, I think we are all doomed. I firmly believe that AI tools will result in lack of diversity, lead to university placement hell, and lack of any passion put into work for majority of the population. This in turn will lead to a high unemployment ratio which can only really be tackled with funding, but then again would wealthy people really want to help? After all rich will always want to get richer. Additionally, less jobs will mean that regardless if you are highly skilled, have a degree and a rich resume, there might just not be any job for you.
AI & Dreaming
A dream is defined as anything you experience during your sleep. Dreams can be interpreted in many ways:
Physiological
Phenomenological
Cultural
Psychological
Surprisingly, dreams share a lot of similarities with AI. They both process information (data/memories) which results in some form of output (text, images, audio/dreams).
Dream Diary
For the next week or so, we have been asked to document our dreams! This can be done in a form of voice recordings or diary entries. I have decided to write my dreams down in my trash discord server - don't mind the name it is quite organised. I've decided to use discord because, as sad as it sounds, that's the first thing I open when I wake up...
